What is End of Life Yoga Therapy?
My approach to end of life yoga therapy is this: when it comes to end of life, we need our bodies, and we need each other. Death might be natural, but it is also infinitely complicated. And unfortunately, we do not have an embodied death and grief culture in the mainstream. We have an avoidance based, “back to work” culture that prizes our productivity over our emotional and physical processing. The value of embodiment work - acknowledging and expressing the most challenging of emotions through our senses, minds, and bodies - does not end when we are dying, or supporting someone who is dying.
Yoga therapy can help disperse the physical tension and discomfort of dying, but also validates and soothes tangled emotions and stress.
What to Expect:
End of Life Yoga Therapy is different than my individual yoga therapy. This type of therapy is done in community, with the person who is dying and their caregivers + loved ones, and also in person. Currently I am offering End of Life Yoga Therapy in person within a 10 mile radius of 15212 zip code.
In these therapeutic meetings, we might do gentle movement, intentional breathing, meditation + visualization practices, and guided relaxation practices. There is time for sharing memories, prayer and/or contemplation, and discussion. We can also use this time to plan organizational support (meal chains, chore assistance, family visits); talk about last wishes, pre death celebrations of life, and post death funerals or memorials; and getting referrals to other likeminded professionals such as mental health therapists, bodyworkers, etc.
What Does Yoga Therapy Cost?
$80 per 60 minute meeting + travel fee, available with need based sliding scale, 20-50% discount, for those that are under or unemployed, or have other reasons for needing discounted access to end of life support.
